Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels (unpopped)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 cloves fresh minced garlic)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (if popping on the stovetop)

Instructions

  1. Pop the Kernels: Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add three “test” kernels. Once they pop, add the rest of the kernels in an even layer. Cover the pot with a lid and shake it occasionally. Once the popping slows down to 2-3 seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
  2. Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter over low heat. If using fresh garlic, sauté it in the butter for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. If using garlic powder, simply whisk it into the melted butter along with the salt until well combined.
  3. Combine and Toss: Slowly drizzle half of the garlic butter over the popcorn. Use a large spoon or your hands to toss the popcorn gently. Drizzle the remaining butter and toss again to ensure every piece is evenly coated. Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired.
  4. Final Seasoning: Taste a piece of popcorn and add extra salt if necessary. Give it one final toss and serve immediately while the butter is warm and the popcorn is at its crunchiest.
