Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean is best)
  • 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Optional: Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent the meatballs from sticking and to make cleanup easier.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Use your hands or a fork to mix everything until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the meat, as this can make the meatballs tough.
  3. Scoop about one tablespoon of the meat mixture and roll it between your palms to form a 1-inch ball. Place each ball onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a bit of space between them. You should end up with about 20 to 24 meatballs.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes. The meatballs should be browned on the outside and cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F.
  5. While the meatballs are in the oven, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Let it bubble for 3 to 5 minutes until it slightly thickens into a glossy glaze.
  6. Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven. Add the meatballs into the saucepan with the glaze or place them in a bowl and pour the sauce over them. Toss gently to coat. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
