Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup barista-style oat milk
  • 1 to 2 shots of espresso (or 1/2 cup very strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • A tiny pinch of sea salt (optional, to enhance the toastiness)
  • Optional: A sprinkle of cinnamon or toasted oats for garnish

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Brew the Coffee Base – Start by brewing your espresso shots or a half-cup of very strong coffee. If you are using a standard coffee maker, use double the amount of grounds you usually would for that amount of water to ensure the coffee flavor isn’t lost in the milk.
  2. Step 2: Create the Toasted Vanilla Mixture – In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the maple syrup or brown sugar, vanilla extract, and a tiny pinch of sea salt. Stir constantly for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture begins to bubble slightly and smells intensely fragrant and slightly caramelized. Be careful not to let it burn.
  3. Step 3: Heat and Froth the Oat Milk – Pour the oat milk into the saucepan with the vanilla mixture. Whisk gently as you heat it until it is steaming but not boiling. Once hot, use a handheld milk frother or a whisk to create a thick, creamy foam on the surface of the milk.
  4. Step 4: Combine the Ingredients – Pour your hot espresso or coffee into a large mug. Slowly pour the toasted vanilla oat milk over the coffee, holding back the foam with a spoon until the mug is nearly full.
  5. Step 5: Garnish and Serve – Spoon the remaining oat milk foam over the top of the drink. If desired, sprinkle a little cinnamon or a few toasted oats on top for a beautiful presentation and an extra layer of texture.
